Anaya walked around the Excalibur camp, hardly believing she was here. So many times over the last year she thought about Excalibur and how much she missed it. She frequently thought about what it would be like to return, but always pushed the idea away. From her point of view, nothing was left for her in Excalibur. She already lost Illyana and she didn't want to form new bonds with anyone else, because from her point of view, it was just as likely that she might lose them too. It was much safer to stay away, to stay with the rebels and forget the life she used to live and love.
Now she was back. Back walking the streets, back in a place that actually felt like home to her, yet at the same time she knew she was now an outsider. Hardly anyone was aware of who she truly was since she introduced herself as Isobel instead of Anaya. Though she liked the comfort and security she felt in the camp, she couldn't help but wish that Winter would recover quickly so that they could leave soon. She was nervous that she would run into people who knew her before and that they would blow her cover and tell everyone who she really was. More than that, she was nervous that Perseus would find out she lied to him about her identity. She was not certain how he would respond to that knowledge, but she was positive it would not be pleasant.
Suddenly anxious about leaving once more, she reached out to James' mind. When they arrived here, he decided to make it his job to remain by Winter's side constantly, so he was always dependable for a good update whenever she wanted one. Even more than that, he was used to her telepathy. She didn't want to scare some random person with her ability. "James, how is Winter doing? Have they said when they'll let her go yet?" Anaya tried to wait patiently for his response as she continued walking. However, she was so focused on James that she forgot to pay attention to where she was going. Almost before she realized what happened, she tripped on something and started to fall to the ground.

The shadows didn't lie. They never did... Simon knew them to be amongst the most objective sensory methods, and had yet to be disappointed. There had been a woman wandering about the camp and avoiding most of its residents, but as Simon observed, there was something strange about her.
He had watched her from a distance, continuing to reach out softly with his own shadow to determine who the individual was, and he couldn't help but notice something familiar about this stranger. He could tell that it was a female of similar height to his friend, Lacey, though from the way she walked and moved, he could tell that she wasn't a part of Excalibur. Simon pondered to himself, 'Is this a friend of that injured rebel we took in? I was only aware of two others...... James and Isobel, was it?' He couldn't remember the other rebels' names too well, though he knew that the injured one's name was Winter. Still.. something was familiar about this stranger. He just couldn't put his finger on it.
There. There it was. That was it.
The woman suddenly fell forward, sending Simon's shadow into action. His shadow was already out, sensing her movements, though when Simon could feel her fall, he went into action. As he broke out into a run toward the woman, he cast his arms forth, commanding his shadow to form a protective and tangible barrier around her. Before letting the solid-yet soft barrier down, he made sure that he was within arms reach of the fallen woman in case she would like some assistance in getting up from the ground; however using his shadow to save the woman from injury gave him more details than he needed to know who she was.
On instinct he faintly whispered her name.
"Anaya..."
Hoping that the once-close friend would recognize him, he quickly resorted to calling her by the name she had offered when she had arrived back to the camp. So many thoughts were racing through his head.
"Careful, young rebel!" Simon said aloud. "Praytell you are the one called 'Isobel'? Friend of Winter the injured? If so... Welcome to the Excalibur Camp!" He let his shadow dissolve out of tangible form, gently setting his old friend down upon the ground. Immediately after, he held out his hand so to help her up.
Simon's thoughts raced loudly in his mind. Knowing how close he once was to Anaya and her sister Lacey, Simon figured she would reach out telepathically as she used to: before she disappeared in the raid that claimed Lacey's Dragon. Simon made his thoughts available, repeating, and loud just in case she would reach out.
'Anaya!! Dear Sister!! You're alive!!! You're with the injured rebel!?? How have you been!? Is Illyana alive too?! Have you seen your sister?! She's been devastated ever since the incident! We should find a place to converse in private!! It's been an eternity since that day!'

Anaya closed her eyes when she realized that she couldn't catch herself in time and she was definitely going to fall on her face. She froze when she felt something familiar and soft wrap itself around her. Simon, she thought instantly, recognizing the feel of his shadow. This is not the first time he has saved her from falling. She's never really been a klutz, but occasionally she did have her episodes. She wondered if he recognized her in return.
She didn't have to wonder long. Moments later she heard him whisper her name. She opened her eyes and saw him standing right in front of her. She felt his shadow dissipate and was not surprised to find that she was sitting on the ground. He offered his hand to her and instantly started speaking enthusiastically. She was only partially listening, because James answered her right at that moment. "Winter is still unconscious. They don't know when she'll be well enough to be moved."[/b] Anaya almost rolled her eyes in response, but held it back. She didn't want Simon to think she was rolling her eyes at him ...
He stopped speaking and seemed to be looking at her expectantly. She thought quickly, trying to remember what he asked. "Yes I am Isobel, Winter's friend," she responded lamely as she took his hand, allowing him to help her to her feet. Suddenly she felt a barrage of thoughts accost her unprepared mind. When she first learned telepathy, Illyana constantly pushed the importance of always keeping your mind open. Anaya was taught how to protect her mind from others, yet at the same time keep her mind open to telepathic thoughts. This way, if someone who knew she could speak telepathically- such as Winter, or in this case Simon- they could reach out to her first if they needed her help. This constant awareness to the telepathic field was second nature to Anaya now, but she wasn't expecting anyone to speak to her telepathically at this moment. Thus, she wasn't prepared for Simon's thoughts.
"Anaya!! Dear Sister!! You're alive!!! You're with the injured rebel!?? How have you been!? Is Illyana alive too?!" The moment Simon mentioned Illyana, Anaya felt as though she'd been mentally punched .. in the stomach?? Somehow, that's exactly how she felt. She stopped breathing and she could feel her heart beat frantically as she began to remember all the things she tried hard to never think of. "Illyana," She meant to think the name only to herself, but in her moment of deep despair and grief, she wasn't sure if Simon was able to hear her tortured whisper or not. All the feelings from the worst day of her life were returning back to her and she was having a hard time controlling herself. What could the people around her see? Did she look like she felt or was her fascade in place? The strong fascade of a young woman who was always in control of herself and could take on anything.
As she turned her attention to how she must look to others, she realized that she was slouching and must look at least somewhat frightened. Determined to keep her image intact, she straightened her shoulders and stood tall, composing her face so that no one could read her inner turmoil and pain. What added more to it was the fact that Simon's message kept repeating over and over in her mind, reminding herself of her own failure at her inability to save Illyana. Somehow, she forced herself to listen to the rest of the message, though it also tore at her soul. She knew that she hurt Lacey by running away, but she couldn't stand the thought of it. She couldn't stand to think of that day and she couldn't imagine being in Excalibur- with Lacey- without Illyana. She knew it was selfish, but her feelings now were just as strong as they were a year ago. Then she heard the end of Simon's message. "We should find a place to converse in private!! It's been an eternity since that day!"
"Simon," she whimpered mentally to him. She might be able to pretend on the outside that things were fine, but her emotions were crumbling around her and she needed someone to help her. Simon was there. She'd trusted him years before. Now she needed to trust him again. "Simon get me out of here. I can't- I can't- please take me somewhere where we can be alone," she begged before turning her attention once more to her crumbling outward fascade. She would not let all of Excalibur see her lose her cool seemingly just because she fell over.
