Soren stormed through the castle, looking for someone to yell at. He knew that most people- if they were smart- hid from him when he was in a mood like this, but he didn't care. He wanted something useful to happen for once! He felt as though the last while had been a complete waste of time for everyone under his command. Morgana- one of his most promising commanders- had come back empty-handed after she practically had the dragon taken care of! No one else had done much better in the recent past. He wanted action! He wanted something to happen! He was tired of feeling like the dragons were getting continually stronger while the Knights of Purity were stuck on the sidelines picking off wayward weaklings. Something had to be done about this. As he paced the hallways, his temper began to wain slightly, transforming into a devious mindset. He had to figure out some way to attack the dragons at their heart. He was tired of small raids; he wanted something big, something that would make his Knights enthusiastic about the cause again. But what? What could he plan? If only he knew a place where the dragons were sure to be- a large group of them. He was positive his Knights were strong enough to make a large impact on a group of dragons, especially if they weren't expecting the attack. He hurried from his castle to the library in the Halls, where he could find a large maps of the land. Maybe if he studied different maps he'd be able to find something useful, something that he could turn into a plan. If not, he would have to come up with something else to rally the troops and get them excited for war, one way or another. (OOC: This could be a useful time for ELIN DRAGON-RIDER to come and talk about the battle she's expecting to have with the dragons and that could help our plot get moving a little bit on the Knights of Purity side ... just an idea.) If this battle was going to happen, Elin was going to be prepared. She wasn't going to be caught off guard, and this time, no one was going to get hurt. Her mind began to wander, as it did so often, back to a time when she and Ryagin had been more naive, when they had been more foolish. When they had faced off with the Queen of the Dragons. The soared through the quiet air, the currents flowing under Ryagin's wings. Are you sure about this? Elin asked Ryagin. Last time they had tried anything, Elin had barely made it out alive, Ryagin had nearly lost his leg, but they had lost more than just skin. They had lost their certainty. With time they regained it, they regained the fire the drove them to unite the humans and dragons. But that lost time was valuable, and then it was gone. They could only start from where they were now. My source is good. Ryagin comforted. Ryluth has been more lethargic of late than is natural, if she is ever going to be taken off her throne, now just may be the time. That was why they were there, to take Ryluth out of the picture. Elin knew the pain this caused Ryagin, but he understood that while she was alive, the majority of dragons could never understand the importance of unity with humans. Ryluth was a force to be reckoned with. They had brought a small force of dragons and their riders with them. Just three. That was everyone who had joined them, but they had learned to to take Ryluth lightly, and so they brought their back up.
They never even made it past the volcanic entrance. Ryagin was shot down, a single lava ball through his right wing. Elin was thrown from his back. Apparently, Ryluth was not as lethargic as Ryagin's source made mention. Not a single dragon or rider made it out of the fight without a scar or serious impairment.
She pulled herself back to the moment. Now was not a time to wander, it was mandatory that she focus on the task at hand. And what an unfortunate task it was. Soren Krauss was an unpleasant man. Charming enough when he wanted to, but more cunning than a snake. The man could convince his own mother to take a knife to her heart. Some of the rumors about him suggested nearly as much. But Elin didn't need rumors to know to be careful around Soren. She had dealt with him for enough years to know that for herself. She had seen his rise to power, how is opposition had disappeared, how those that supported him suddenly gained influence and power. He was as slippery as an eel, nothing he was ever accused of stuck to him. It was with this knowledge that Elin approached his chambers. She gave him a certain amount of admiration. He had risen from nothing, and his story held true with the Knights history. Charm the masses, gain control. He had used that charm on her many times. She had been through to many corrupt rules to believe a word he said without a bag of salt. He made good on many of his promises, but it was always with a price. She was underground now, going to speak with the Grand Prior for one purpose. To elicit the Knights help in this upcoming battle. She was going to make sure she was as prepared as she could be. There were two guards posted at the library door, proving her information of where to find him was correct. She entered the library, not giving the guards a second glance. they knew better than to stop her. One of their comrades had tried that once. He was no longer able to participate in active guard duty. "Soren." she said softly, but not gently. The word was firm and demanding. She was not just a girl who had befriended a dragon any longer, now she was a leader of a revolution the likes of which the world had not seen in a thousand years. She was a leader, and she knew her importance, influence, and power.

Soren stood over the table, his hands supporting him as he pored over a variety of maps. This was not his favorite task. In fact, if he had his way he would never look at another map again, but he was too experienced for that. In all honesty, he was not the only one who looked at these maps. He made sure that all the leaders of the Knights of Purity looked at these maps frequently,so in all reality his studies of them were not quite necessary. Yet, this was one of the things that made Soren a great leader. Unlike those who went before him, he kept himself up-to-date on all the changes that were made to the maps in his Halls. Many leaders wouldn't see this as a priority, they would only require that their leaders study the maps. However, Soren knew the importance of keeping himself well-informed. It was one of the things that aided to his rise to power. Suffice it to say that the previous Grand Prior did not study the maps or know the land. That helped lead to his downfall. Soren knew how easy it was to trick, manipulate, or betray one who was unaware, so he made sure that would not ever happen to him.
He was aware that some people in the Underground might think him him obsessive- though none would dare speak the thought- but Soren saw himself in a different light. In his eyes, he was prepared for any and all eventualities. He knew the sort of people he surrounded himself with, while at the same time he allowed none of them to know him. He knew that one of the simplest ways to defeat an enemy is to attack when you know them and they don't know you. So he searched for people who were similar to himself, people who embodied his own qualities and he promoted and encouraged them, supporting them in their quests to become stronger, yet he did so at a distance, allowing them no opportunities to know the real him. He knew the caliber of people he kept close to his person, and he trusted none of them. Sure, he told some of them parts of his plans. He wanted them to think that they were important, special even, so he told them what they wanted to hear. At the same time, there was no one among all the Knights- man or woman- that he trusted with all his plans. Only he knew those. Only he knew all the preparations the Knights had made in recent years, their discoveries, triumphs and near-failures. He was the one who kept the Knights of Purity where they were. He was prepared for anything.
"Soren." He flinched inside when he heard the familiar voice coming from behind him and amended his previous thought: He was prepared for almost anything. It was Elin Dragon-Rider. Ugh. How he despised the one woman who "threw a wrench in his plans", as they used to say. Out of all the people he had met during his duties as Grand Prior, this was the one acquaintance he wished never took place. Elin was the one person who could destroy all that he had worked so hard to build. She and her band of renegade dragon riders threatened all that the Knights of Purity stood for and he loathed that fact. He couldn't count how many Knights he had already lost to her cause.
Pushing himself off the table he stood tall and turned to face Elin with a charming smile on his face. He may not like her at all, but he didn't have to show her that. One of his many talents was the gift to hide his inner feelings. Though people may be able to sense his attitude, no one could know his thoughts and plans. "Elin Dragon-Rider, what a pleasant surprise. To what do I owe this visit, or did you merely come to see the Halls?" he asked politely, watching her carefully.
Her expression was serious, determined even and Soren felt a glimmer of anticipation enter his bones. She brought news. News that would probably end in battle and he was excited. He allowed the smile on his face to become genuine, though he doubted she could see the difference. No matter how much he hated her, her intel was always accurate and she normally did not come to see him unless it was about something dangerous. He was in. This could be the major battle that he was searching for, the one he needed to keep his troops with him.

Elin looked up at the man as he stood before her. He used his height as an intimidation factor. Unfortunately for him she had faced the dragon queen thrice and was still alive to tell about it. Whole... well that wouldn't come into play here.
"Soren, I have urgent matters to discuss with you regarding Ryluth and her dragons." Elin's face was steal and her voice matched. As she looked up at the man, calm and collected, she knew she could be making a mistake. But it was a mistake she would have to make, for she had no other option. Though she was not about to let this man know of her desperation.
She moved her eyes away from his, and rounded the desk he had been using. There was only one chair next to it, the one Soren had been using. And she sat in it. She was half tempted to put her feet on the fine wood, but thought better of it. She was a professional, and taking the taunting that far would have been cruel, unlike Soren, she was not cruel.
"I have verification that Ryluth is planning an attack, or at least, will be planning an attack. And it will be on both the Knights and Excalibur." She said this without looking at him. It was the truth, though she was leading him to believe that Ryluth would be the one initiating the attack and she had no confirmation of the truthfulness of that implication.

"Indeed," Soren made the question seem a statement as he waited for Elin Dragon-Rider to explain herself. From his experience, she always did, and without much prompting from him either. He was glad. He didn't want to beat around the bush today, he wanted the news immediately. He raised an eyebrow when she took the liberty of sitting in his char. The impertinent woman, he fumed inwardly at her, but he kept any sign of his anger hidden. He would not give her the satisfaction of baiting him. Especially when that seemed to be what she wanted. Forcing himself to smile again, he inclined his head slightly before turning and walking across the room. He easily lifted a spare chair and sat it down across from her at the table. After all, he had no idea how long their conversation would be and he did not want to stand for the duration. His eyes flashed with pleasure when Elin finally revealed her knowledge. His first instinct was to ask after her source, but he stopped himself. He knew better than to ask that. He knew she wouldn't answer. So he wasn't going to ask. "So the mighty Dragon Queen is going to attack," he mused thoughtfully, stroking his beard slowly. "Did your source tell you when or where? And would I be correct in assuming that you came to deliver this news personally because you wish to form an alliance for the battle in question?" he asked, almost positive that he already knew the answers, but curious all the same. Maybe he would be wrong ... but he didn't think so. ELIN DRAGON-RIDER (OOC: I love Soren so much! He's such a snob. Haha)

Elin bristled when he guessed her intentions so quickly, though that was their relationship. One tried to out maneuver the other. Many times she was able to dismiss him and his petty games, but this was not the time. Now she needed him. "You are correct, My Riders could defend our home, but not the Knights' home nor the people that live here. With the Knights backing the Riders, Ryluth would not be able to gain any ground." Her Riders couldn't defend her home, she didn't have enough and they didn't have enough combat training. But if Soren knew how vulnerable they were he might just decide to attack her himself. She needed help, not another enemy. Leaning forward, her elbows on the desk in front of her. "The thread of Ryluth and her court is not something to shake lightly off, if she comes for us, she will certainly come for you as well." She made sure to make her point clear, they were in this together or there would be serious consequences. SOREN KRAUSS(Soren is so fabulous! I love him!)

Soren smiled, pleased as always that he was right. How he loved being right about everything! And this was such a juicy opportunity he couldn't resist. Play allies with the rebels for a time, battle the overconfident Dragon Queen. Everything seemed to be going his way, of course he wanted in! He laughed softly, hoping it would make Elin Dragon-Rider feel more comfortable but doubting that it really would. She was too astute for that and if she wasn't he was most certainly disappointed in her. A leader who trusts their opponents so easily is clearly a weak one and Soren despised weakness. "Of course, of course. No attacks by the Dragon Queen are a good thing," he agreed easily. "Especially when they could come to break down all I have been working for." He tapped his fingers together gently as he continued to think. "So how, exactly, do you want this to work? My knights aren't going to stand behind any of your men," he tried to keep the sarcasm out of his tone, but not too much. It wasn't really a secret that he was prideful of the way his soldiers handled battle and he wanted to be sure she knew that. "Do you want us to be in charge of a section of the battlefield then? Or are you hoping to intermingle our two groups? I will warn that the second strategy might not work out so well if we are truly going for an alliance ..." he trailed off, waiting patiently for her response. Hopefully she would just give him an area to be in charge of. That would be the ideal situation. ELIN DRAGON-RIDER

Elin had already considered all of her options. Mingling the knights and her riders together... well that would prove to be disastrous. They would end up fighting each other long before Ryluth's dragons got there. She was sure that a fight would break out between the groups eventually, though she was trying to be optimistic.
I wish I was there with you, Ryagin's voice in her mind sounded sour. I could wipe that smile off of his face.
Letting her lips curl into a smile at his remarks was just one more way to let Soren guess what she was planning.
"Your Knights should take an area. An alliance we may have, but our troops don't mix well together. However, since both are well trained it would make sense to have your Knights cover a section. Have your Knights be ready on the night of the battle and I will let you know where we will be headed." She said. It was a risky move, not letting the Knights know where they would be fighting, but she couldn't have Soren making any plans she wasn't prepared for.

Perfect. Soren couldn't imagine a way things could have gone better. He was going to have his own portion of the battlefield all too himself, which would be perfect for the plan his mind was concocting at that very moment. A double betrayal, a chance to rid the world of both dragons and the ridiculous rebel group. His smile widened, though not too much. He didn't want to tip of Elin Dragon-Rider to his emotions. If she had any idea how excited he was for this plan, she would never let him near the battle. "So, do we have any idea when this attack will take place? I would like to have my men ready at an appropriate time. Also, I think it would be wise for us to have a meeting to discuss tactics and any further information as you receive it. I'm quite busy over the next few days, with all the preparations, but I can send my second-in-command, Morgana. Could you spare someone for a meeting like that?" He watched carefully, searching for any signs of what she was thinking. Anything more than that stupid smile. ELIN DRAGON-RIDER

Elin did not purse her lips, though she wanted too. Her hand went up to her lips as she thought, stroking the lower head of her tattoo.
"The place of the battle will be revealed in due course." she said, deciding that she would give him one day to prepared. A day before the battle she would tell him where it was.
His idea about planning was good. And Morgana? Hadn't someone told her about this second in command? She was sure she had heard something of her before. Then it occurred to her, she was the woman who tried to take the dragon at the beach! Well this was going to be a blast.
"A meeting seems to be in order, If you are sure you can spare your second in command, I would be happy to meet with her. Perhaps one week hence?" She was sure, by the slight increase of his smile that something was happening in that mind of his. She wasn't sure what, but it made her uncomfortable.

She was holding out on him. His smile widened as he decided this. Granted, if he were in her shoes, he would do the exact same thing. Why give all the information to someone you do not fully trust? At least he knew she would eventually tell him when the battle was going to happen. There was no point in asking him to be her ally in a battle that would happen at a time he was unaware of and unprepared for. Grudgingly, he admitted to himself that his respect for her was heightened by this, if only slightly. She still was one of his least favorite people. He nodded his head, pleased by her agreement to meet with Morgana, though slightly surprised that she intended to do it herself. Why meet with a second-in-command when you can send your own to meet them. Whatever, that was her problem. "Oh, we will find a time to spare her," he assured Elin Dragon-Rider. Then he decided he was ready for the meeting to be over with. He had much planning to do and could not do it while she was present. "Now is there anything else we need to discuss?" he asked pointedly. ELIN DRAGON-RIDER
