Ryker: This was bad. Ryker knew it, but he also knew there was nothing he could do to fight it. Sooner or later, he was going to die. Probably in the next few minutes, in fact. He was already fighting the dragon with a rider. This time, he knew the rider. It was Rod. How did a Knight of Purity have a dragon? Still, he was battling it and things weren’t going well. Then it happened and the dragon’s tail pierced his armor. Ryker fought to remain standing.
Leonora: Leonora had lost Ryker for a few moments and was freaking out. She had promised Selethina that she would keep an eye on him! Then, suddenly, her heart seemed to stop beating for a moment. She turned to see Ryker get run through by a dragon. She was in action at once, running toward him.
Ryker: He was hurting. As the dragon pulled its tail out of Ryker’s shoulder, he grunted and could feel the blood gushing out. Then Rod was standing in front of him, laughing. He taunted Ryker (who hurt so badly he didn’t hear what was said) and pushed him over so Ryker was now on the ground. Ryker wasn’t exactly sure what was going on but he was certain he was about to die.
Leonora: Leonora ran through Knights and Excalibur members alike, moving people out of her way as Rod stood over Ryker maliciously. Upon reaching them, Leo leapt up and ran up the dragon’s back. She, being a medic, knew all about pressure points and swung by the dragon’s neck, kicking the perfect spot that would knock the dragon out. As it went down, she jumped from it and landed on Rod’s back, wrapping her legs tightly around his waist and holding her sword at his neck. “Back. Away. Now.”
Ryker: Ryker could hear something going on and then the unmistakable thud of the dragon falling to the ground, but his vision was going dark. Before he lost consciousness entirely, he saw something wonderful: Leonora’s face. It was right beside Rod’s, but also clear that she was furious. As his eyes rolled into the back of his head, Ryker’s last thought was: “I wish she didn’t have to see me like this.”
Leonora: Rod backed away slowly, making some snark comment about how it was too late for her captain. She twisted herself off of his back so she was in front of him, sword still at his throat. “Go now and I won’t kill you,” she said firmly. Rod must have seen the deadly look in her eye because he moved on. Leo sheathed her sword and immediately turned to Ryder, kneeling by his side. “No, no don’t do this, Captain,” she said, frantically assessing him. It was BAD. She glanced at the battle around her and then gently tugged on his arms, pulling him right up next to the unconscious dragon to use it as a call of protection. Then, she did the best she could with what she had to bandage him up. Just a temporary medic style until she could get him to some real supplies … but she was afraid they wouldn’t make it. She looked at him with horrified eyes, chewing her lip for another moment before standing and turning to the nearest Excalibur soldiers. “Men! Your captain is wounded. Abandon post, we need to take emergency evacuation maneuvers,” they listened and helped her lift him on a make shift stretcher using their cloaks … but how far from camp were they?
Selethina: Selethina felt the puncture wound as a young … dragon? Yes, it was a dragon that hurt her beloved Ryker. She was furious, but still in the midst of her battle with Viserion. And losing. No wonder she couldn’t get to him in the vision. Then … Erisdar came, heading Viserion off and Selethina shot toward the ground where he lay. “What can I do?” she asked Leo, glad the girl remained with Ryker as she’d asked.
Leonora: Leo was at a loss … until Selethina arrived, Leo let our a happy choking sob sound and then straightened up. “Help me get him back to camp,” she said.
Selethina: Selethina nodded, “I’ll need you to get him on my back and then sit behind me to hold him on. Can you do that?” she didn’t know how comfortable Leo would feel on a dragon.
Leonora: Leo nodded and with the help of the other soldiers they got him up and Leo leaned over him, holding onto Selethina and using her body as a seatbelt for Ryker. “Ready!” she called. She hoped the pressure she was putting on him would hold back the blood flow as well.
Selethina: Selethina waited patiently as they got Ryker on her back and then took off, heading straight to the main camp. When they got there she landed softly. “Ok, you can get off now,” she reached out to Ryker’s mind but he was still unconscious.
Leonora: Other medics came to help and soon Ryker was off and into the tent. Before going inside Leo turned to Selethina. “I will take care of him. I promise,” then she ducked into the tent and immediately got to work. It was a grueling, bloody process and even when they did all they could she wasn’t sure if Ryker would wake up.
Ryker: Ryker didn’t know what was going on. One second he felt like he was dying, the next it felt like he was engulfed in flames. He couldn’t be dead. It wouldn’t hurt this bad. So they must be trying to heal him. After what felt like ages, he cracked his eyes open a sliver. There was only darkness above him. Darkness and a familiar silhouette.
Leonora: It had been a long time, Leo didn’t keep track of how long. She had helped with other injuries, but had soon come back to Ryker and had sat down beside him, falling asleep with her head resting on his bed. Then the time came to change his bandages and she stood, but right before she touched him he opened his eyes. “Ry- Captain,” she said softly.
Ryker: It was her. Ryker closed his eyes and exhaled in relief. “Leonora,” he croaked, his eyes closing once more. “How did you-” he cut off as a wave of pain hit him, forcing himself to not make a sound.
Leonora: He said her name and it took all her energy not to cry. But then he cut off and she reached a hand out to gently touch his forehead. “Don’t say too much. Selethina and I saved you, as well as many others. It’s all right. I’m not leaving your side,” she said in her usual soft tone.
Ryker: It felt nice, soothing to have her touch him. At least, it was something to distract him from the pain. He listened to her explain things and nodded softly. That made sense. She and Selethina. “I thought I-” he paused for a second with the pain. “I was going to d- die,” he knew she said not to talk, but he wanted to explain himself.
Leonora: Leonora paused, and then looked away. “I thought you would too,” her hand tensed and she took it off his forehead. “I mean, I was worried for you. But don’t worry,” she looked back at him, “I think you will be all right. I’ll make it so.”
Ryker: He shook his head. “No … I saw myself die. In that vision.” He turned his eyes to look at her. “You are the only reason I’m alive now,” he told her softly.
Leonora: Leo could feel her heartbeat in her ears. She remembered when he had the vision … but she tried to stay professional. “I guess things change … circumstances were different.” Her hand hovered over his arm, but she didn’t touch it.
Ryker: He shook his head again and groaned. Why did everything hurt? “Not until you came,” he said softly, reaching his hand up to try and grab hers. “Thank you.”
Leonora: She saw the movement of his hand and met him halfway, taking it and lowering their hands gently onto the bed. The professionalism was waning, and she felt herself choke up. “I just … don’t want to lose you since I just found you and all …”
Ryker: Ryker finally smiled when they were holding hands. “I don’t want to lose you either,” he told her, trying to make her feel more comfortable. He gave her hand a little squeeze.
Leonora: He smiled and she couldn’t help but smile too, letting out a choked laugh. He squeezed her hand and that was the final straw she gently leaned forward to wrap her arms around his shoulders in a hug, careful not to press on his worse wounds.
Ryker: She was hugging him and Ryker tried to lift his arms to wrap around her, but he couldn’t lift the one with the injured shoulder. So he wrapped the one he could around her, pulling her closer. “Stay with me,” he whispered in her ear.
Leonora: One of his arms wrapped around her too and it made her realize just how tired she was. She hadn’t slept in … hours. She sighed contentedly and rested her head on his shoulder. Then he spoke into her ear and she froze for a moment before nodding and turning her face to kiss him lightly on his jaw. She pulled back a little, just enough to slowly bring her legs up so she could lay beside him. Thankfully he had been moved to a closed off section of the medical tent, him being a captain and all. She shifted so one of her arms was lightly draped over him, clutching the fabric at his shoulder. “Only if you stay too,” she finally said. As in NOT DIE.
Ryker: She agreed. Not only did she agree to stay, but then she kissed his jaw. Ryker leaned into it as much as he could, then wriggled his arm under her so she could hold her more closer to him. He turned his head and kissed her cheek, “I think I’m gonna need you here to make sure that happens,” he teased with a quiet chuckle.
Leonora: He kissed her cheek once she was settle and she felt that fluttery feeling in her stomach. She adjusted her face to look at his, which was extremely close. “I’ll make sure. I’ll make sure you never go anywhere,” she said softly. Then her cheeks reddened, “well … within reason.”
Ryker: Ryker grinned at his promise, “Or you can just come with me if I go anywhere. I might not give you a choice,” he admitted before pulling her closer and finally touching his lips to hers.
Leonora: Leo didn’t even have time to blush at his offer, because he was kissing her and she was kissing him back. She had never kissed anyone, but hse was sure it wouldn’t be anything like this. She tightened her grip on his sleeve until she broke free, “I wouldn’t want a choice,” she looked into his eyes seriously, “I don’t want to live without you there. Ryker, I …” she paused.
Ryker: She kissed him back and Ryker felt so relieved. He never felt this way about anyone else. He smiled at her words that followed the kiss. Then he did something reckless. “Marry me,” he said, “Once I’m out of this tent. Then we don’t have to live without one another.”
Leonora: What? Marry him? It was so sudden but … it seemed like it was supposed to be this way. She nodded once and a tear fell from her face. “I will. Yes. I love you,” she said, leaning forward to kiss him again. She chuckled against his lips, “I haven’t even unpacked since moving up from the underground,” she chuckled.
Ryker: She nodded and smiled, “Good. I love you back.” Then he laughed, “You don’t need to if you don’t want to. My place is big enough for the both of us once I get out of here and until then … you’ll stay here with me, right?”
Leonora: She grinned, "That's what I mean. It's convenient," she chuckled. Then she nodded again at his words, "I'll care for you for as long as it takes," she kissed his scruffy cheek, "and then for the rest of your life."
Ryker: His smile widened as hers did. How come everything was going so well when it was all supposed to be so broken? He laughed a little, “Well I guess if you're going to do such a good job I will too, taking care of you as well.” It was more teasing than Ryker normally did, but he was feeling oddly giddy and didn't know if it was because of the pain emanating from his shoulder or because Leonora said yes.
Leonora: Leonora grinned and cuddled up against him even more, if that was possible. “I hope so,” she muttered, her eyes slowly closing. She yawned, “When are you going to tell Selenthina?” she asked, half awake, not really conscious enough to freak out about that part.
Ryker: Ryker chuckled at her question. “What makes you think she doesn't already know?” He teased. No, she didn't. Selethina was asleep. “I'll tell her in the morning, but she likes you. You don't have anything to worry about,” he told her, squeezing her slightly as he did so.
Leonora: Her eyes would have widened if she wasn’t so tired. Instead she just nodded. “I like her too,” she muttered, but she was definitely having trouble staying conscious. “Goodnight, Captain,” she said softly before falling asleep.
Ryker: She seemed surprised, but her exhaustion was stronger and Ryker chuckled. He wasn't as tired as Leonora (probably because he'd been unconscious most of the day) but now that she was clearly falling asleep, his eyelids grew heavy too. “It's Ryker to you,” he teased before kissing her cheek lightly and pulling her closer. Then he drifted off to sleep as well.
