Ryagin’s wingspan is is 100 yards, his length is 50 yards and his height is about 25 feet. He has electric blue scales with white accents. His right front leg has a very large scar on it, causing him to limp when he walks, but does not hinder his flying.
[break][break]
Ryagin is a very proud beast, he is the second oldest dragon alive, second only to Ryluth (in both size and age). He has a lot of knowledge and wisdom, however he does not communicate with very many people. Elin is his closest friend, and his may relayer of information to the rest of Excalibur. Ryagin is also very determined and patient, he has been working toward the goal of human dragon peace for centuries now, and is still fighting the good fight. While his patience is strong when it comes to plans, it is thin when it comes to many humans. Perhaps this is left over from his days with Ryluth, but he just can’t understand why some humans act the way they do. This gives him a bit of a temper, which occasionally he lets flair. Elin is able to calm his rages, and talk him down from his high horse, most of the time. He does not care much for extravagances, as he tries to be as opposite Ryluth as he possibly can be.
[break][break]
He was found by Ryluth when he was an egg, and was raised by her to hate humans, and to be her mate. Together they spawned a new race of dragons and took over the world. They chose to stay on their island home of Teavarath, which was once Great Britain.
[break][break] Ryagin was content to stay with Ryluth, he saw nothing wrong with her way of looking at the world. That is until he met the old man. He was out flying when he saw an old man armed to the teeth. Ryagin was aching for a fight, and while this man wouldn’t put up much of one, he would make a tasty snack. He landed, preparing for a short, yet satisfying skirmish. But the man did something that through Ryagin off balance. He dropped all of his weapons then walked forward slowly. Ryagin froze, not sure what was happening, then the man’s hand was on Ryagin’s snout. A shudder of calm went through Ryagin’s body as the man spoke words he couldn’t understand in a soothing voice. Then he dropped his hand and walked away, leaving his weapons and a changed dragon behind.
[break][break] His opinions and ideas changed slowly and quietly, but it all started with that man. Perhaps humans were not all that bad, they couldn’t be. Just like all dragons were not kind. After a few years of mulling it over in his mind, he brought his new ideas of dragons and humans living together to Ryluth. However, by this time they had become a passion for him, more than an idea, more than just a passing thought. He wanted to create a world where all species could live in peace, together. Ryluth’s rage, startled him, for he had never had her anger directed at him before. But Ryagin has never been one to back down from a challenge. They had a brief and intense battle, resulting in Ryagin leave the volcanic palace of Ryluth, vowing to her he would see a world where humans and dragons lived together.
[break][break] His first plan of attack was to convince dragons, so he flew down to Gorgoth, trying to talk to the dragons there about his plans. He was met with criticism, laughter, and skepticism from almost all sides. Perhaps he needed to approach the humans about this first. He went to a small slave community, but they only scattered from him or asked him what they could do for him, their minds only on servitude, not equality.
[break][break] He retreated from the city, flying to the opposite side of the island, as far from Ryluth as he could get to tend his wounds. There he thought about how to bring about his mission. And this was when he realized he could not do it alone, he would need a human on his side. But he wouldn’t be able to find any in the slave quarters. Ryluth’s spies had long speculated about small communities of humans living separate, perhaps underground, but had never been able to confirm this. Ryagin couldn’t just go looking for them, but he could listen. so he settled down in a cave, listening to the whispering of the earth beneath him and the animals around him. He looked for signs of human activity when he went to hunt, and after a long while he found it. Once he knew humans were surviving apart from Ryluth’s government, he was content to wait for them to happen upon him. He waited by where he had seen his evidence of humans, and when the first one came up, he let them leave. Eventually he heard rumors of a kindly dragon who wouldn’t fry people to a crisp. But he made sure he did not stay in the same place. If someone was going to be willing to fight by his side for human and dragon rights thye had to be willing to find him. Hundreds of years past, but Ryagin didn’t mind waiting.
[break][break] Then Elin came to his cave. He had been careful to not let humans find his home, but somehow this girl had bypassed his every effort to keep it safe and came within a mile of it. When she had first appeared she had startled him, and old habits reared, his lightning disfigured her face, but she didn’t seem to mind. She stayed with him, even after she was healed. Eventually he showed her his true home, and after a year when they had become fast friends, she put her hand on his snout like that old man had so many years ago. Something jolted through the both of them. He was astounded that he could hear her thoughts, and she could hear hers. Even more impressed with the rush of strength he felt. They had bonded, the first dragon and rider in recorded history.
[break][break] As they learned of their new found connection and strength, they helped each other to learn how to become better. When they felt they had mastered their abilities they chose to face Ryluth, figuring that dethroning the ruler was the best way to upset the system. They had not accounted for Ryluth’s preparation in the form of a dragon army. Retreating they realized they needed their own reinforcements. They began recruiting dragons and riders to their cause and after a time they attacked again. Their allies made all the difference and Ryagin and Elin were able to make it into Ryluth’s inner sanctum, challenging her. The battle that followed was short and devastating. Ryluth called in her guards and it took four of them to catch Ryagin. Ryluth took the opening, catching his right leg in her maw. He collapsed to the ground in pain. Elin screamed in shared pain and jumped off of his back toward the dragon queen, slicing her sword through Ryluth’s wing, severing a part of it. Rage ran rampant through Ryluth as she struck Elin across the back of the head. Ryagin realized they could not defeat her here, they had not learned to work together well enough and Ryagin had been preparing as well. He couldn’t bear to lose Elin and so he scooped her up in his claws and fled from the volcano, crying retreat to their followers.
[break][break] From then on Elin was not the same, her mind had been broken, though she never let others see it, only Ryagin knew of her true struggle. They could not give up their shared dream, though. And so they started to plan a little bigger, a resistance, a rebellion. They dubbed it Excalibur after the mythical sword that gave the right to rule this land in ancient times.
[break][break] The year is 4015 and Excalibur has been established for 20 years, and is continuing to gain strength. But both Elin and Ryagin know the price of strength.
