Noctus is a young dragon, not quite fully grown yet. His scales are a sapphire blue colour and on a bright and sunny day, it can be hard to tell him apart from the sky. The colour of his scales brings out his bright red eyes which have been known to intimidate some people. He’s about 12 feet tall for 33 feet long and has powerful and muscular wings that are about 15 feet long each of them. He’s a well-built and powerful dragon with a crest on top of his head. He’s remarkably softly spoken and carries himself in a relaxed and casual fashion.
[break][break]
Noctus is remarkably gentle, something which clashes with his human partner’s hot-headedness. He’s never in a rush and always listens to others, frequently seeking out advice and guidance before doing anything. If he had the choice, he wouldn’t be fighting. That isn’t to say he disagrees with Excalibur, quite the contrary, he’s a firm believer in dragon/human equality. It’s just the bloodshed that he dislikes.
[break][break]
Although he’s still young by dragon’s standards, he’s wise beyond his years and is often a voice of reason. That’s not to say he’s a bore though, one of his favourite pastimes is teasing his rider and often tries to slip in the occasional pun on words when he can. Noctus can be a little lazy at times, enjoying a good bask in the warm sun and can be a real pain to wake up sometimes.
[break][break]
When Manisha calls Noctus a coward, she should probably say ‘overly-cautious’. He’s not a big fan of running into things head-first without thinking them through, although often finds himself obliged to do so when faced with his rider. He is very patient when it comes to the young woman and spends much of his time defusing her temper.
[break][break]
He’s an easy dragon to be around and tries to avoid conflict whenever possible. Whilst he and Manisha may have their differences, he cares for her very deeply for her and ultimately will follow her to the ends of the Earth.
[break][break]
Noctus is a relatively young fourth generation dragon of noble descent. His parents both belonged to the dragon court. They treated humans with contempt and expected their only son to do no less. From the youngest age however, it was apparent that his interests lay elsewhere. He was a bit of a dreamer, spending the time when he was supposed to be studying looking out the window and wondering what lay beyond the horizon.
[break][break]
He would routinely observe humans from afar and study them. Whilst it was true that they were different from dragons, the blue dragon found himself thinking that these strange bipedal creatures might be a little more than simply snacks or slaves. He began to grow disgusted with his fellow dragons for the way that they were treating humanity and in his young nativity, he attempted to reason with his parents.
[break][break]
They would have none of it and let their son know that if he showed such sympathy and weakness again they would let Ryluth know. Fearing for his life, the young dragon stayed quiet and never raised the subject again in his parents’ presence opting to play the role of the model son. He studied under other air dragons, eventually learning how to become incorporeal. He was about 200 years old at this time.
[break][break]
Still, his compassion towards humanity lingered. Growing tired of the other dragons of the court, Noctus left claiming that he only intended to explore faraway lands. In practice, he intended to seek out Excalibur. He didn’t know much about the group, only rumours and the anger of the other dragons at those who would form a bond with humans. Although he didn’t particularly want to fight, he thought that his skill and knowledge might none-the-less be of use to them.
[break][break]
He spent years searching. Until one day he found something very different. A young human teen attempted to steal his food. He easily foiled the girl’s attempts but rather than kill her, he found himself feeling sympathy.
[break][break]
He shared his meal with her and listened to the child’s story of her rough and difficult life. This only doubled his feeling of pity. A strange thought occurred to the dragon: what if they formed a bond? It would make it impossible to return home but that no longer bothered him much. He felt as if the child needed protection and who better than a mighty air dragon?
[break][break]
The teen, Manisha accepted his offer. He would raise the young girl and protect her for the next ten years. Along the way, he would learn that she was hot-headed and quick to get into trouble, something which would inevitably lead him into many a dangerous situation himself.
[break][break]
It was Noctus’ idea to track down Excalibur and he had to virtually drag Manisha kicking and screaming before she agreed that they could offer them protection and it would be the only place safe for them. He’s aware that his rider isn’t particularly well-settled into her new life and tries to both apologize to those that she has offended and encourage her to be less abrasive.
