The trees swayed softly in the breeze, the sun filtering through the branches. Birds flitted with way and that, whistling out melodies that harmonized with the wind. A perfect day. Minya rested in the bow of a tree, whittling a small chunk of wood with her knife. She was waiting for Ranulf, the guy she talked to about Excalibur stuff. She hated that she talked to him. Not because he wasn't good looking or because he didn't have good stuff. He had great information, but when he was the only person she got to talk to (officially at least.) in Excalibur. Her job as an informant was dependent on multiple sources and rumors. She couldn't get those if she only spoke with one person! She hacked at her piece of wood and sent a chunk flying away from her. How as she going to talk to more people higher up in the Excalibur ranks? Ranulf Argentum North

Power surged through his body, speeding his way along the Middle Road—the trees, above the road of humans and below the road of the dragons. Ranulf moved impossibly fast for a human, though still not as fast as he could have pushed himself if he was in any real hurry. He leapt from one tree, sailing twenty feet through the air to the next. It was time to trade information!
Ranulf had spent his life as a messenger in Gorgoth. Retaining and delivering information properly had literally been drilled into him all his life—he’d still had baby teeth when he started running around, memorizing messages or carrying thick scrolls so large they had to be strapped to his back. Memory retention was a specialty of his, not to mention his ability to get anywhere he wanted to, even places humans shouldn’t be able to reach.
Ah, here we are—he could hear the scratchy sound of a knife on wood. He landed in the tree, pausing for a moment to let the energy of Grounded flow away from him, returning him to his mere human levels of strength and speed, then scaled his way down into the tree, stopping on a branch just above Minya Alevi, an alluring mouthpiece for a never-seen information broker. He grinned down. “If every tree came with its own beautiful woman, I’d have the best job ever. What’s good, Secrets?”

A subtle vibration of the tree alerted Minya to his presence. She had trained herself to notice the tiniest changes in her surroundings, that was why she was still alive. Well that and the fact that she was seen as just a pawn. Ranulf scaled down the tree and stopped right above her. Glancing up from her whittling, she gave him her most adoring smile. "Why if it isn't my dear lieutenant, Ranulf. How have you been?" she put her knife into it's sheath in her boot. She glanced down at the piece of wood which had transformed from a stick to a intricately carved flute. She tucked it into her belt and looked back to him. She had purposefully deflected his probing. He carried messages, and was very good at his job. But she gather information, which was an entirely different ball game.

One thing that dragons and humans had in common was the mind games.
Growing up as a messenger, Ranulf had watched the reactions of a lot of dragons. Watched their emotions play across their faces, lace the words they spoke. Seen them fake smiles and sweet words to those they hated. Observed them trying to hide emotions to varying degrees of success. And humans were the same way, oddly enough. He tended to lack the tact to not push buttons, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t see that the buttons were there. His inability to shut his mouth was equal measures valuable and dangerous, but people always misunderstood his lack of filter as being simply him unable to read the situation properly, which came in handy quite often.
Take now, for instance. Minya was smiling at him—and, he supposed, they were friendly enough that he deserved a smile. Just not the one he was getting. Many people in Excalibur were very hesitant about him being their contact with most sources close to the dragon city. He had the powers needed to move messages quickly where nobody else could, but just one wrong word to Minya was just another piece of information for Talon to broker off. And again, not known for his ability to keep quiet.
But if there was one thing that could get him to try, it was the idea of putting others in danger. So he just grinned at her when she put her latest wood carving away and asked how he was. “Hungry. Always hungry. Howsabout you, Secrets? I hope the mysterious leader’s not working you too hard.” He flipped over, lowering himself down to sit on a nearby branch, and reached out to poke Minya in the shoulder. “Can you play that flute?”

This man was so fabulous. So intricate and evasive while still being transparent. Such a pleasant puzzle for her mind to figure out. She loved puzzle's, and she loved giving them to other people. Such as her and Talon. If anyone with half a mind decided to delve into Minya's past, they might be able to figure out who Talon was. However, she had made sure her past would not come unburried. And so she was safe. For now. She worked very hard on her vibe of nonchalance for her customers, which meant she wore the guise at all times. No one got to see the paranoid little girl she holed up inside of her. Sometimes not even herself. But it was that paranoid little girl that had kept Minya alive for so long.
She held up the small wooden flute in response to Ranulf's question. "Me? Oh I am afraid, the flute is not my strongest suit." she gave a dramatic sigh. Of course she could play nearly any instrument, however she tried to give away as little about herself as possible. She eyed the flute in her hand, then threw it over her shoulder. She could make another one.
"And you should know better, I don't have any secrets. At least I don't have any secrets that can't be bought." She strode to his side and put both hands on his right shoulder as she said this, whispering the last words into his ear. "Do you have any secrets for me? she whispered.
