Well that hadn't been fun. A strong gust of wind had come out of nowhere along with a rather territorial dragon. The result was Emerald being stuck up there while Eugene fell down to the ground. Sure he landed on several branches and came to a softer landing on the ground but it still hurt. Problem was, he was left on his own. Pulling the hood down on his multi-colored green cloak, he glanced around. How was he suppose to find her? He only had half of his sight, the scar on his eye showed that. No weapons....nothing. Oh boy. He started to move out, using his hands to help guide him along so he could at least figure out where there were trees and where they weren't.
He dared not speak out, not wanting to cause unneeded attention. He knew there were dragons and humans out here, hidden away. He didn't need to be taken hostage by either groups out here. The sound of something breaking caught his attention, resulting in him putting his hood over his head and quickly ducked into a bush. Wether or not he made it there before anyone saw him, he wasn't sure.

Dragon scouts from Gorgoth tended to guarantee an interesting day. So when the big green one had flown by, Ranulf had followed from below with barely-contained glee. It wasn't hard, really—dragons looked for other dragons, or human movement on the ground, and colors that didn't belong. But his hooded coat was the exact color of the leaves of the trees he moved through—and the thing that had nearly gotten him to serve as a message runner for the Queen Bitch Herself was the fact that he didn't move like a human. Case in point, as he jumped, swung, and climbed through the trees with experience and ease. Clawed hands and feet gave him grip, while sudden bursts of inhuman power gave him speed—and thirty-foot lateral jumps when he knew the green dragon wasn't watching him. But he watched her. She wasn't really headed anywhere that might call for him distracting her, but he was just considering doing it anyway when a dragon emerged from the forest, bellowing a challenge. Reptilian eyes, rust-red, saw with amazing clarity as the two titans clashed— And the bundle fell to earth. Curiouser and curiouser. Ranulf was off like a shot, slipping through the trees, leaping and sliding and flipping like he was born to it. But he slowed as he approached where the bundle had fallen, now crawling along thick branches with all limbs like a lizard. Eyes flashed, located the bundle, which was apparently a person. And he'd survived the fall, which meant luck, skill, or power. So which was it? Probably not power. He was jumping at every little noise. Hm. Ranulf shrugged his overcoat off silently, folding it up and leaving it in the tree. The less people knew about Excalibur having a wild man hopping through trees for them, the better for the trees. Then he moved down the tree quietly, carefully, letting the power slowly siphon out of him as he moved. Dragon's eyes faded, leaving odd but very human eyes of grayish-blue flecked with amber. Claws vanished, becoming fingertips. Yellow scales faded away from the arms, leaving human skin alone. Now Ranulf gave no hint to his dragon bond—he was just a guy in baggy black pants and a dark brown tunic, dropping barefoot out of a tree right in front of their visitor with a massive grin on his face. “HI!”From his crouching position, he could see the man's face, hooded though it was. He stood up quickly, just over six feet tall, and crossed his arms, regarding the stranger. Tilted his head one way. Tilted it the other. “You might wanna take that cloak off and fold it up. It sticks out more than your eye.”eugene

Eugene had been hoping he'd evade whatever he heard but he hadn't expected a person to appear from above and land on the ground right in front of him. This caused the slave to pull himself back away from the being. Where had they come from? However at their words on the cloak and his eye, the young man grabbed the hood and pulled down on it. Thinking that maybe it would hide his face more from the stranger. "It's not of your concern." Eugene said. "Why do you care?" (Sorry, short muse. Need to reclaim it) Ranulf Argentum North

Twitchy little guy, wasn’t he? He drew away, seemingly trying to keep distance between them, and covered his face more. Standoffish, unwilling to fight. But given his general demeanor, it seemed like a waste of time. Nobody who did want to fight would be deterred. Ranulf tilted his head as the guy asked him why it mattered. For most people, this was where they offered empathy. Most people thought before they spoke. “I don’t. But you seem to be, so I figured I’d point out what you could do to make it easier.” He shrugged, looking around them to see if anyone else was approaching. He was reluctant to show his powers in front of what was clearly a dragon’s slave, since not all of them wanted to be free. “Lucky for you, there’s no knights around here at the moment. Those guys would just wax poetic about how humans are better than dragons and you should join them or donate your head to their ‘beat the dragons by killing other humans’ plan.”He turned and grinned again, thrusting a hand out toward the green-cloaked figure. “Your cape though. Name’s Ranulf. Do you shake hands or is this freaking you out?”OoC: No worries eugene

He truthfully didn't see why it mattered. Why would a random stranger care? It was highly unlikely that they really did. "It's my scar, I can show it as I please or not at all." Eugene answered. "Rather poor way to go about trying to help then on their part." That really didn't make sense, either join or we kill you just because you won't join. Really stupid. Did they have a idiot leading them or something like that? A hand was soon held out to him. A bit of confusion came to mind at how they mentioned his cape but didn't say nothing else. Only to change the subject. "What about my cape?" Eugene questioned, though he accepted the hand and shook it. "I'm being cautious is all." Ranulf Argentum North

He’d be lying if he said he wasn’t surprised that the handshake was actually taken. He arched an eyebrow at the other claiming he was just being cautious. Kinda weird, to claim caution on the one hand while wearing bright dragon green. Still, considering the guy prooooobably wasn’t supposed to be down here, had fallen a long way, and didn’t look to be particularly strong (this could be a ruse, he reminded himself), it was perhaps understandable. With hands shooken and names still ungiven, the barefoot renegade looked skyward, where he assumed the two dragons were still fighting. “So is your dragon gonna win that fight? I’ve seen her before, she scouts for the city, doesn’t she?” Technically that made her a direct enemy of his, but Ranulf wasn’t one for grudges or rivalries, so he wasn’t too fussed one way or the other who won the fight. He was pretty sure the other dragon wasn’t Excalibur, at any rate. And even if it was, he wasn’t exactly equipped for dragonslaying anyway. He could keep one distracted all day, but frankly, he didn’t know if he could kill one. He lacked all the flashy powers of other dragon bonds. “Can the dragon find you after the fight, or will you need help? Do you even want to go back?”eugene (erk, sorry post is bad Dx)

The cloak was several shades of green, it wasn't exactly bright bright green. Sure it was bright but it had other shades to it. It was so he could blend in with Emerald's scales, to be hidden while on her. So that the enemy wouldn't go straight out for him right off the bat. "She does scout, whether or not she wins...I can only hope she does." Eugene answered. "She can find me. She's a lot better than the previous Dragon who I served under." Ranulf Argentum North

So she could find him then. Were they perhaps bonded then? He didn’t really act like he was, but that didn’t necessarily mean anything. That was why Ranulf was hiding his own bond—he was possibly the only human ever bonded to a Force dragon, itself a new subspecies of dragon. That made both dragon and rider extremely dangerous to Gorgoth, though information gathered from the city suggested they had been looking into other cases of “powerless” dragons who survived their tormentors against all odds.
“Well, I’m gonna stick around and see if you actually survive this mess.” With that, he darted over to the nearest tree and hauled himself up expertly, then crawled out along a thick branch until he was about fifteen feet over the cloaked guy, still in plain sight. Then he stretched out and laid down along the branch, looking for all the world like a lazy cat. “So you got a name? I remember some of the Gorgoth dragons stripping the names of their slaves.” His father had never had a name, though he and his older sister did.
